The role: Directly reporting to our Controller, the Staff Accountant plays a key team member part. This role is responsible for managing all financial transactions, including purchases of equipment, for the Dallas market. Additionally, this role will assist the Houston market and its accounting functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to)
- Perform technical accounting tasks, such as account reconciliation and journal entries for all markets/divisions.
- Key all financial transactions for the Dallas market, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions in Dallas, including capital expenditures.
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and ensure the integrity of the P&L and Balance Sheet statements.
- Maintain expense tracking via Excel workbook or other expense management software.
- Review and analyze transactions to ensure accuracy and relevance in the reconciliation process.
- Identifies discrepancies between cash receipts from customers and invoices, then works with inside sales group to resolve with customers.
- Monitors A/R aging and prepares monthly accruals and aging analyses.
- Liaise with the Accounting team, internal, and external parties to obtain information needed to execute job responsibilities.
- Protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Assists with special projects and provides cross-functional support as needed to help other team members and the company overall.
- Provide support for ad hoc financial projects and tasks as needed.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in managing transactions for accounting, finance, or other related fields (accounting classes or bachelor’s degree is a plus).
- Excellent cognitive skills as evidenced by your college GPA or other assessment.
- Strong accounting software knowledge and ability to troubleshoot independently.
- Understanding of P&L and balance sheet statements.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.
- Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Professional cadence in email etiquette.
- Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (V-lookups, Pivot Tables, Filters).
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word and Outlook.
- Knowledge of lumber and building materials items is a plus.
- Natural curiosity and a willingness to learn.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and professional regard for their work.
- Possess strong time management skills.
